Preparing for the field: Global Teams training

February 28th, 2020 by Global Teams

Catalyst training in February 2020 in Chiapas, Mexico

Global Teams offers a two-step missionary training program. Horizons, an intensive, two-week orientation and basic training conference, is a required event for all Global Teams applicants, but is also open to anyone seeking to discern a possible future call. Participants gain practical tools for ministry and a path to follow in preparation for ministry work. Global Teams holds Horizons training in the U.S., Mexico, Chile, and various locations in Africa and Asia. A Horizons training event is tentatively planned for Central Asia in 2020.

During Catalyst, Global Teams’ advanced missionary training, field partners (missionaries) work through an inductive study of a large section of scripture, such as Luke and Acts.  Everyone on the team, regardless of cultural background, can study the Bible, in most cases, in their own language. As the team studies the passage, they look at how the Gospel spread, how early leaders were selected, equipped and developed, and how the ministry was supported. During Catalyst, field partners also learn to develop prayer support, learn about culture and language, and learn practical tools for language acquisition and cultural acclimation.
